Wild Woman

She stays hidden
trapped deep inside
needing liberation
calling out to be free
her eyes filled with passion
her hair untamed her body
naked for she is animal
wolf, leopard, owl...
she who knows true desire
she who flies above the clouds
stalks at night feeding on
hearts that have yet to feel
she is Wild Woman kept
locked away not allowed to be
for if she is emancipated
she would be destructive to man
she who would live life for herself
she who would love for herself
so many times she has tried to
escape just as she is about to be freed
she is pricked with a thorn or
poisoned with fruit and put to sleep
she is kept captive by mother stepped
on and pushed down into the darkness
until she is tamed and cultivated into
the role that must be played out
but Wild Woman stays hidden inside
knowing one day she'll unshackle
the chains that keep her bound
she'll come out for all to see
shedding the skin that was made
to fit expectations of who
she should be layers upon layers
cover Wild Woman but she
claws and digs toward the surface
knowing that she WILL come through
Wild Woman she who lives
within all of us.

Forgotten Way

Close your eyes and come with me
on a journey of long ago when the
Earth was alive and it felt so free
the spirit held within us could love with ease
the flowers, the birds, the fish of the sea
the land was part of who we were
the animals talked and we understood
we shared a love that was part of us all
we lived as one beating heart
the blood was the river that traveled
through us giving us what we needed
but soon it began to cry as we lost
our way the animals turned their
backs on us not wanting to share
there knowledge of life for they saw
how we wasted what was such a gift
spirits began falling from the sky
once honored land so loved
proud spirit Father Sun burning
through in anger wanting to set
fire to our hearts to feel passion
again for the love that we've lost
the tears falling for broken hearts
that have forgotten their spirit
that have forgotten their way.
